Family Physicians

Family physicians deliver a range of acute, chronic and preventive medical care services. In addition to diagnosing and treating illness, they also provide preventive care, including routine checkups, health-risk assessments, immunization and screening tests, and personalized counseling on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Family physicians also manage chronic illness, often coordinating care provided by other sub-specialists. Family medical practitioners must then complete three to four years of additional residency in family medicine. In order to become board certified, family physicians must complete a residency in family medicine, possess a full and unrestricted medical license, and take a written cognitive examination. The American Board of Family Medicine, as well as other specialty boards, is requiring additional participation in continuous learning and self-assessment to enhance clinical knowledge, expertise and skills. Family physicians may pursue fellowships in diverse topics including adolescent medicine, geriatric medicine, sports medicine, sleep medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine.

Beating a Marijuana Employment Drug Test

Employers use labs that adhere to the mandatory federal workplace guidelines for drug testing programs. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, a federal program enacted by Congress in 1992, publish these guidelines. The rules state that an employer can require one or more preliminary test, followed by confirmatory tests. Prospective employees will most likely have to submit to a urinalysis. Although there are other types of drug testing, approximately 90 percent of the estimated annual 55 million tests done in the United States are urine tests. While urinalysis does not detect marijuana or other illicit drugs, urinalysis does detect non-psychoactive metabolites, indicating whether a person has used a substance previously.
For marijuana users this is bad news because, THC-COOH, the main metabolite of marijuana, is fat-soluble and can remain detectable by a urine test for days or weeks, depending on frequency of use. For both causal and infrequent users, the urinalysis test can detected metabolites just hours after a single use. For chronic or regular users, urinalysis can be detect metabolites several days or weeks of prior use.

Dilution

One of the best methods to help beat a urine test is dilution. Before an upcoming drug test on short notice, a person should drink large quantities of water--up to 120 fluid ounces before the test.
